Warning: These Bands Are Highly Volatile Part 1

So Im back (in more ways than one) from my trip from England and after venturing into England's indie rock seen I have "discovered" some bands that will surely explode when they cross the pond. I have seen all of these bands live so that might skew my judgment on the merits of there studio recordings because these bands all put on one hell of a live show.

First up is The Pigeon Detectives. Of all the bands that I am about to talk about these guys are probably the most likely to follow the likes of the Arctic Monkeys. Seeing as they are the #1 most downloaded CD on Itunes UK Alternative Rock department it is obvious they appeal to the masses. The Pigeon Detectives thrive on there repeating choruses that are quickly learned and thoroughly enjoyable. They write in almost a sing along style that mimics I'm From Barcelona and throws in The Arctic Monkeys themes of sex, drugs, relationships, and rebelliousness. I hope sooner than not they will release there CD in the US and hopefully tour the country for a while so I can see them live once again. The CD they released is titled Wait For Me, which is also the name of one of the several singles on the album. So here are a few songs that I highly highly recommend.

THe Land Of "Eng"

I have decided to keep a journal of the 2 month trip I will be taking in London. As the title explains London is a land of "eng" and i plan of doing, sleeping, traveling, and so on. Here it goes

So i have completed the first two days of the 2 month London trip. After landing in London about 5 pm local time me my father and my brother all went to a nice Indian eatery in Hounslow, were we are staying. It was a comfortable place with a kitchen in the basement, and very spicy chicken tika. After that we met up with my Dads friend who he went to High School with in India almost 50 years ago. He now runs a cab business in Hounslow close to were my dad is staying. We got a 5 pound cab from my dads friends company to take us to ASDA, which is the UK version of Walmart, except it is much nicer and cleaner feeling much more like a very large Target. ASDA is open 24 hours and is the cheapest place to shop in London according to the sign outside of the store. After wee purchased some breakfast foods, and needed supplies we walked along the uneven pavement of Hounslow back to the flat. Hounslow is just outside of central London, about 20 minutes away on the underground. Hounslow is very close to the London Heathrow airport causing many bed and breakfast's and hotels to spring up all around the area. After walking back to the flat I fell asleep on my inflatable mattress only to awake at about 3 oclock local time. Today I began to notice the cultural and linguistic differences between America and the UK. For example while talking to my aunt who lives on the other side of Hounslow, I mentioned my father would get home from work at around "7". She then asked me when he would be home 3 additional times two to which I answered "7" before the 3rd time i realized i had to answer "7 o'clock". After my dad did get home at around 7, we headed to central London where the prologue to the Tour De France was occurring. There were no races today but there was a musical performer we watched for a few minutes. The few standout songs were merely covers of the Usher and the Darkness's Do You Believe In A Thing called love. From there we traveled to Leicester (pronounced Lester) Square where we had dinner at a local Italian restaurant which was aptly named "Ristorante Italiano." All of us ordered "piazza" which tasted a lot like the frozen cardboard pizza sold in Ralphs Supermarkets for a dollar. The standout ingredient was the pepperonis which were from pepperoni sausages in stead of pepperoni stacks. Following the Italian food, we walked past a theater(which along with centers are spelled with an re instead of an er) playing Monty Pythons Spamalot to another Italian eatery once again appropriatley called Italiano Cafe. There we had some coffee and lattes. London is a great city and the people here all seem very kind, mainly because of there proper tone.
Ill add some mp3s to this post later time to sleep

Run Too Low

Finally after months of anticipation on my part, Sea Wolf has released an EP and it is everything I expected and more. Using only You're A Wolf of the previously 3 released songs on the Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low EP, Alex Church continues to impress. The lonely ballad "I Dont think ill be back this time"[MP3] got me hooked from the very first line. Church got me to thinking about college and after college when begins, "Everytime i come back home, I get this feeling im alone...I wonder when im at my door will this key work anymore" From now on, most of us will have two homes and personally I fear the feeling that when I get to the dorms I either wont want to leave or never want to go back. Then Church follows up that spectacular with 4 more really very hella(ha!) solid songs. All I can say is if this is the EP, the CD will definitely be among the years best but then again itll probably be a year till we even illegally download it.

1 2 3 4 (Revive)

I guess ill be starting this up again as school is ending, and ill have some more free time. And, I guess Im going solo because I dont want to rely on others, and I dont want to be pressured into things (not in life just the blog). The plan is that I will blog what I like, whatever that may be. Here we go again...

Speaking of OK GO! and what I like, Feist's new one take viral video for her song 1,2,3,4 is by far better choreographed and more complex than OK GO's 20 million + viewed treadmill gimmic. See for your self:

Other Things: Office season finale this Thursday at 8 on the Peacock! Team Karen looks like its down and out for the count but what is gona become of JAM?! Im tuning in to find out, you should too.

Songs That Have Defined My Summer 2006, Part 1 of a 10 part series

This summer is just about over, its basically winding down. So far its been one of my favorite ever as I got my license and able to roam about a little more, but not that much. Musically, it has been easily the best as I have discovered so many new bands and old ones that have seemingly been on repeat all summer long. To honor all 20 of these songs I have put together a mix tape of sorts. Each song is a 5 star, highly recommended nugget, and for those of you who use itunes is tagged and has the album art(to the right) attached. I will be writing about two at a time and uploading them via yousend it for your downloading pleasure.(Available for 7 days)

The first song chosen randomly by Itunes is noneother than Elliot Smiths cover of Chilton, Thirteen. This song is one of the many on the list that I can say I know all the words to by heart. Elliott plays beautifully on his acoustic as he lets the lyrics take center stage. The first line of the song sets the tone for the rest as he notes, "Wont you let me walk you home from school". This line is reminiscent of the Beach Boys equally as questioning and as romantic opening line for the song "wouldn't it be nice". Elliot can do just about no harm, musically, in my book.

MP3: Elliott Smith-Thirteen(Chilton Cover)

The next in line is my favorite Mountain Goats song of all time, Love Love Love. So far the summer seems to have been pretty romantic, as the song outlines what people would do for love. The line in the the song that sends chills down my back is when it describes "young Kurt Cobain" who "snuck out to the green house, [and]put a bullet in his brain." If he did it for love we will not know, but surely the moment will last forever as the song later notes. This is truly as wonderful song and its the Mountain Goats at their best.

O and the artwork choice contains the two things that have been the highlights of my summer, the beach and soccerfootball.

Facebook>Myspace

This fact is genrally accepted by most college students, and rejected by most highschoolers simply because most high schooler dont have facebooks, and if they do not nearly as many people have them. This is a direct result of the invite only facebook, and the free for any spammer to join myspace. Facebook is much cleaner, no grease, no html crap, just wall writings and personal info. Now to connect this to music, Facebook is greater than Myspace simply because of a sweet offer Apple is giving to all Facebook members. A Free 25 song sampler every week!! There is a new genre covered every monday. So far there has been Rock and Alternative, and they have been excellent. Apple has compiled the tracks and they are of mostly great taste. The only way to get this goodie bag of 25 free songs is to join the Apple Students facebook group and you cant do this without a Facebook...so, here is the track listing of the Alternative Sampler with a few to taste:
